Role Summary:
Support the Enterprise Business and Global Public Health (GPH) growth in Southern Africa and lead public policy, legislative and advocacy priorities.
- Deliver coordinated initiatives and partner with the J&J franchises to advance the growth, patient access and pro-innovation external policies. Among other topics, the person will develop, deliver and co-lead on policies and legislation impacting healthcare systems reforms, access pathways and shape policies to reward and protect innovation such as intellectual protection.
- Engage with the local/ regional Institutions and trade associations and industry-based trade associations, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder platforms.
- Lead efforts to identify business risks and opportunities, and to develop & execute legislative and government solutions that support innovative industry and maximize value for patients.
- Support and coordinate policy projects and best practice sharing among J&J countries’ teams.
- Serve as critical team member of the Southern Africa leadership team, the GA&P Sub-Saharan team, Emerging Markets team and global GA&P community to support J&J policy priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of the enterprise Government Affairs and Policy (GA&P) strategies for Southern Africa for the 3 J&J sectors: Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices and Consumer Health.
- Develop and execute on stakeholder engagements plans in support of the company’s legislative and policy priorities.
- Develop a network of stakeholders in areas including opinion leaders in the field of health care management and financing, policy makers, regulators and trade partners.
- Daily responsibility for executing legislative and policy efforts to shape the external environment
- Represent the company both internally and externally on local/ regional related policy and legislative matters
- Collaborate with specific franchises and represent the J&J enterprise on numerous broader-based healthcare issues and activities and lead efforts to support the GA&P Global Strategic Framework and Enterprise Focus Areas
- Building and maintaining external relationships
- Direct external policy consultants and engage and manage key stakeholder industry coalitions.
- Enhance the reputation of J&J within the SADC region, by positioning J&J as a partner on matters of public health.
- Provide leadership to the enterprise through coordinating government engagement on strategic focus areas of medicines pricing, regulatory policies, universal health coverage, IP, tax, sustainability etc.
- Support the enterprises in the development of specific stra vaccines, HIV, COVID-19, mental health, ebola, essential surgery and deworming program.
- Driving regulatory harmonization for the innovation driven life sciences industry and J&J’s offerings through active engagement with the SADC, UNECA, NEPAD, UNICEF, WHO and other regional bodies.
- Interact with relevant stakeholders to manage issues pertaining to imports / customs / excise and health policy issues and other economic policies that might impact the business.
- Identify areas for coordination and collaboration with WWGA&P colleagues outside of Africa to strengthen interactions of governments, the European Union and other multilateral organizations (strategic partners / donor countries) with the AU.
Qualifications
- University Degree or Equivalent in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Business or Health Sciences.
- Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in government, international relations, corporate or government affairs environment/role.
- A good understanding of Southern Africa government organizations and the wider African Union, Africa CDC, AMA and other African regional organizations (SADC, ECOWAS, EAC)
- Excellent influencing and relationship building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills / report writing (proficiency in English and in one language spoken in the region)
- Strategic thinker with a global mindset and a passion for policy advocacy.
- Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills: Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
- Team player, self‐starter, comfortable working at a strategic level within a matrix organization.
- An understanding of the pharmaceutical sector will be an advantage.
- Excellent research skills with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and out‐of‐the‐box thinking
- Fosters a culture of insight‐driven innovation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to write clearly structured, concise, logical, and convincing submissions.
- Ability to manage budgets.
- Computer Literate – MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Willingness to travel.

Your job
As a Care Team Senior Supervisor, you will be managing a team based in KL, Nairobi and Madrid. You will be responsible to motivate your own teams to ensure production levels and targets are achieved, to ensure effective processing controls are in place across locations, as well as championing efforts that achieve the highest possible levels of provider experience and satisfaction that enable the company to meet its growth and profit objectives.
Your role will be broader than the day-to-day management of the team – your agile, provider centric mindset will ensure that you contribute to our overall provider operations strategy, identifying opportunities to enhance the service proposition and to improve the efficiencies and productivity of your teams. Your role will report into the Care Senior Manager based in Madrid.
Your role will be to:
- Responsible to lead dedicated care teams across the globe in and efficient and effective way.
